Postback inside of AJAX Rounded Corners Extender problem

Hello everyone. I have learned alot through this site and finally joined because I can't seem to find a fix for my problem and I was hoping that you guys could help me out.

I have a DropDownList with a SqlDataSource inside a panel with an AJAX rounder corners extender. It seems that the page shows itself without the extenders applied but then flashes and shows the extenders applied to the controls.

If I take the DropDownList and SqlDataSource out of the panel I know longer get the screen flash, but the extenders do take a second to show on the controls.

What is the fix for the Screen flash? And, If possible, how can I delay the display of the controls so that the AJAX extenders are applied before showing the controls?

Try putting Panel in a UpdatePanel

Thanks for the suggestion, but putting the Panel in an Update Panel didn't work. The screen still flashes. Here is my code with the update panel.

Anything else I can try?

1. When I put your code in UpdatePanel there wasno flash when I changed value in DropDownList.

2. The RoundedCornersExtender should have ajaxtoolkit prefix, unless you have changed tag attribute in your web.config file

3. Depending on how much data you are fetching in the dropdown list, it will take longer to apply rounded corners effect.

The simple reason is javascript executed by rounded corner starts executing after you panel is completely loaded and size (height and width) is determined. Also, the more javascript/ajax calls you use the slower it gets, as javascript gets slower and slower as size increases.

PS: You can turn off debugging in web.config file by setting <compilation debug="false">. This will speed up Ajax scripts as they don't make any debug calls. And you won't see a delay.

2. I have the following entry in my web.config file for the AJAX controls:

3. I am not fetching anything into the dropdown list.

I also turned off the debugger.

I have done further investigation and it turns out that I don't need the SqlDataSource tied to the DropDownList to get the flash. The only control that makes the screen flash is this DropDownList. When replaced with a textbox or button there is no flash. The first Example below shows the flash when the page is loaded and the "Push Me" Butotn is clicked. The second example has the DropDownList outside of the Panel and doesn't have a flash when the page loads or the "Push Me" button is clicked.

I tried your code same results both times no flash. Although as I said before, it takes fraction of a second(1/10 or even less) to apply the DropDownExtender (being a javascript). It is not noticable at all.

What browser you are using? I've read many complaints related to AJAX and IE 6. I'm using IE 7.

Please try with other browsers and see you have the same issue.

Yes, that's what it was. I updated from IE6 to IE7 on one of my computers and tried the page and there is no flashing issues. So, is there a recommendation for a solution for IE6 users when viewing my website?

for IE 6 you can use filter instead of RoundedExtendedCorners.

Now on server-side you can check Browser's version (Request.Browser.Version) and then enable/disable RoundedCornerExtender as well as set CSSClass or Style property of the Asp:Panel control to use or not use filters.

Filters are specific to IE. They don't work in FireFox or other browsers.

Preventing onTextChanged event

I have a small conundrum with a databound textbox and an AJAX Masked Edit Extender control that formats the textbox input to a date. My problem is that I need to confirm user input on a control and send an email if a date is added to the box, I am using the textbox OnTextChange event to send the notification when the page is posted. However, if a date has already been entered, the Ajax control reformats the date captured from the database and causes the OnTextChanged event for the textbox to fire. I only want that event to fire if a user puts a date in that field not if the field is reformatted by the AJAX control.I am at a loss as to how to prevent the control from firing that event considering it is actually changing the text.

I recommend using Teleriks Input control. Then you need zero programming for this. Its worth the grand if you doing this professionally.

Problem calling Web Service using the DynamicPopulate Extender - Web Service Call Fails: 5

Hi, I'm quite new to ASP.Net AJAX so please forgive my ignorance.

I have downloaded and installed the RC1 version and am following through some of the tutorial videos.

I am having a problem with the Dynamic Populate Extender example. I have created some asp controls with onclick events calling a javascript function. From there I am attempting to use a dynamic populate extender control to call a web service - it's a function declared on that ASPX page as the tutorial explains in necessary and decorated with the System.Web.Services.WebMEthod AND System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptMethod attributes.

Everything works as expected until I attempt to pass a parameter to the web services - in fact until I declare the web service function with a parameter. Once I do this, all that is returned to (or at least all that displays in) the control linked to the DynamicPopulateExtender is "Web Service Call Failed: 500".

Can anyone possibly put me on the right track here? (or would I need to post some code examples?)

I have worked through the differences between your version of the tutorial and the code I was trying to get running. It all boiled down to the name of the parameter on the web service method. I don't understand this yet but if I call the parameter on my web service method, "contextKey" it works, if I call it anything else, it fails.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

In the documentation it states that the paramater must be astring namedcontextKey

[WebMethod]string DynamicPopulateMethod(string contextKey) { ... }

Note you can replace "DynamicPopulateMethod" with a naming of your choice, but thereturn type and parameter name and type must exactly match, including case.

Problem converting from Atlas beta to Ajax

Hi,

I have an application that uses the Modal Popup Extender control. I developed it using the beta of Atlas, and now I'm trying to convert it to version 1.0 of Ajax.

I've removed the Atlas references and added the one for the AjaxControlToolkit. I replaced the Atlas ScriptManager tag with the new ASP:ScriptManger tag, and I replaced the Atlas ModalPopupExtender and ModalPopupProperties tags with the Ajax ModalPopupExtender tag. When I try to run the program, I get a Javascript error which says 'Sys' is undefined, and refers to the following code added at runtime:

You need to edit your web.config in multiple places as well. I would suggest you compare the sample web.config in the ASP AJAX with your own.

Problem getting AutoComplete Extender to work

Hi I just want to get the autocomplete extender to work with a text box and I'm having trouble getting it to work. It seems like the service isnt being called or that the control isnt working. Compiles fine and no errors in IE when its opened

Unfortunately even this doesnt get it to fire. I wonder if you could put together a quick sample that fires in VB to use as a template.

I posted my working code (simplified) on the thread i linked above...

FYI - I've been banging my head all day, and this worked for me. Is there something to be done to get around the need to remember to make this change? This was a pre-exising ASP.NET app to which I'm adding AJAX functionality.

Problem in ajax popup extender

Hi,

I have a problem in advanced ajax extenders. I am unable to use 2 or 3 types of extenders on same page.

I made a page in which 3 times , i used the pop extender in which i added the asp:calander tag.

Only the first date , it works. If i try it for second date..It is unable to pick the date...

When i declared a Label and an Image in the Header Panel of a CollapsablePanelExtender, its displaying controls on separate lines.

but i want to display label on the left side and image on right side.

Is there any tech to do like this since its taking more space and looking bad.

Hi Hasan,

I think you problem is a CSS related issue. Actually, itemplate header works as a div container but it is not recommended to changes its CSS directly. We suggest that you add another container (div) and add css style to the newly added container. For example,

Another way is using a Table to control its showing position.
